Do You Want Star Wars Origins Films?

So we all know there’s going to be new Star Wars movie hitting the big screen in a couple years, Star Wars VII is set to release in the summer of 2015. And now we know that Disney has spinoffs planned that are rumored to appear every year after the seventh film of the franchise hits. But these spinoffs wouldn’t just be new stories venturing into uncharted territory in the Star Wars Saga, some of them might be origin stories.

Ah, I can already here the groans. Don’t mess with this character, don’t mess with him, don’t mess with her. Everyone’s got someone that’s off limits, for me it’s Hon Solo, that’s one guy that wasn’t tainted by the prequels and still has a chance to remain unpolluted. But as you know, with a movie as big as this, rumor’s are bound to swirl around. Currently Bobba Fett, Han Solo, and even Yoda are names that have been tagged to star in solo origin films.

I’m sure many peoples first thought is that Disney is going for the big bucks, taking advantage of some of the biggest films in cinematic history and destroying a legacy that could’ve ended perfectly fine after the first three movies premiered in the late 70’s and early 80’s.You only have to mention Star Wars to get around a third of the worlds attention and everyone of those people have an opinion on the situation.

But even if people don’t want them, will they just miss out? I don’t think so.

It’s obvious, even the sequels that some painfully sat through made millions and millions of dollars. Why? Because it’s Star Wars, people aren’t just going to see these movies because their fans anymore.People where Star Wars, T-shirts, buy posters and all other kinds of things just because it’s Star Wars. The franchise is a pop-culture God, everyone know what they are. Disney know that too.

George Lucas is truly a genius. He gave us bits an pieces of characters that we fell in love with for decades and more to come. Is it really that bad to learn more about them?

I have to say my curiosity grown the more I think about it. Despite my love for the character, I’d enjoy to see the beginning of Han Solo’s shenanigans as a smuggler, maybe we’d get a peek at Lando’s exploits on Cloud City and of course Chewbacca would be in the picture. But that’s if everything goes good. All I have to do is think back to the last three movies and my mind goes to a bad place. A wrong move could poison the entire character, just like Bobba Fett in Attack of the Clones.

I’m willing to give these proposed origins a shot (crosses fingers). I just hope they aren’t shy with their choices. Let’s see Mace Windu, Qui-Gon-Jin, Chewbacca,Wedge Antilles or even an Admiral Ackbar movie. The plethora of character’s Star Wars has makes it impossible to choose.

My final request is that Disney takes time to plan out and make sure that the qualities of these movies are as high as possible. If they want to crank out new movies every year, there’s a big chance that everyone isn’t going to be a hit. The superhero craze that’s hit the film science and they make it look a lot easier than it really is. Star Wars is an epic, one that should be treated with respect, not like a lemon being squeezed for all it’s worth.
